Told my family in Iran today that Ahmadinejad was coming to New York, to the United Nations. A few seconds of silence followed. Disbelief. I guess when you stand up for freedom you assume the rest of the world will be there to greet you. Especially the United States, the country most people hope would greet you with open arms and congratulations for the risks you take to get freedom.
But, alas, the world is silent. Embracing a man who beat his own people into submission in order to have a seat at the United Nations. But, even if the world is too afraid or confused to stand with us, we will not forget. We will not forget.
After the few seconds of disappointed silence, they quickly pick themselves up with a sarcastic snicker. ”It’s alright, we can handle this. What did we expect. And when people show up to protest, he will show the pictures and say, ‘look how many people came to see me, I am an international sensation.’ But we will handle this. And we will wait, until they self-distruct. Because, they can never change our hearts, which have seen what they really are.”
